  4.     For two hours on Christmas Day an unrepentant Nicolae and
  5. Elena Ceausescu faced an invisible tribunal. In answer to
  6. charges of genocide, subversion of the national economy and
  7. secreting $1 billion in foreign bank accounts, the couple
  8. defiantly challenged the right of their accusers to judge them.

  12.     Ceausescu (arguing loudly): I do not recognize this court.
  13. Read the constitution.

  15.     Prosecutor: We've read the constitution. We know it better
  16. than you do.

  20.     Prosecutor: What possessed you to reduce the people to the
  21. state they were in? Why did the people have to starve?

  40. answer only to the working class.

  60. actions of the members of the Ceausescu family, we condemn the
  61. two of you to death.

  64. of Rumania and the Commander in Chief of the armed forces. I
  65. refuse to recognize this court.
